At the time of this discussion is the article that I
made about the disease diabetes. Diabetes is one disease that can not be
predicted when you will be affected by this disease, because are many causes. I
will discuss what is Diabetes, How to know whether or not we suffer
from Diabetes ?, Anyone can suffer from Diabetes ?, and to furthermore you
can read an article I wrote below:
What is
Diabetes
What exactly
is Diabetes Mellitus or diabetes that ?
Diabetes is
a disease in which the body can not produce insulin ( blood sugar-regulating
hormone ) or insufficient insulin or the insulin produced does not work
properly . Therefore, it would lead to increased blood sugar when checked .
There are
two main types of diabetes are:
Type 1
diabetes
A state
where the body has been completely unable to produce insulin . So patients must
use insulin injections to regulate their blood sugar . Most sufferers are
children and adolescents .
Type 2 diabetes
Occurs because
the body does not produce enough insulin or because insulin can not be used
properly ( insulin resistance ) . This is the largest type of the disease ( 90
% more ) , often occurs in those aged over 40 years , obese and have a family
history of diabetes .
How to know
whether we suffer from diabetes or not ?
Those who
suffer from diabetes often exhibit the following symptoms :
> Frequent
urination
> Body feels weak
> Weight loss
> Eyes blurred
> Thirsty and drink plenty
> Old wounds
heal
> Easily an infection of the skin ( hives) , urinary tract and gums
> Pain or numbness in the hands or feet
>Drowsiness
The symptoms
above are common , but in some people the symptoms are often not present at all
. To be sure , the necessary blood examination in the laboratory .
Anyone can
suffer from Diabetes ?
Diabetes can
happen to everyone . But for those who have a family history of diabetes , are
more likely to suffer from diabetes . In addition to family history , other
risk factors are those that have excess weight ( fat ) , high cholesterol ( bad
diet ) , hypertension and lack of physical activity . Those over the age of 40
years accompanied by obesity will increase the risk for diabetes .
How to make
sure Diabetes or not ?
Diabetes
Diagnosis is obtained when examination results are found as follows :
> When blood
sugar greater than or equal to 200 mg / dl
> Blood sugar 2 hours after administration of 75 g glucose solution ( on the oral glucose tolerance test ) gives results greater than or equal to 200 mg / dl
> When a person has typical symptoms of Diabetes ( lots of urine , lots of drinking , lots of eating , rapid weight loss and body weakness ) , then the results of the examination only once above have determined the person suffering from diabetes .
But if there
is no typical symptoms , required twice the above examination to confirm the
diagnosis of diabetes .
What is the
Pre Diabetes ?
Pre diabetes
is a condition where the blood sugar is higher than normal but not yet high
enough to be classified as diabetes .They are
included in the category Pre Diabetes , high risk of developing type 2 diabetes
later in life , unless they have a healthy life to lose excess weight and
active exercise .
> Blood sugar 2 hours after administration of 75 g glucose solution ( on the oral glucose tolerance test ) ranged between 140-199 mg / dl
How to cope
with diabetes ?
Both people
with diabetes type 1 or type 2 , is very important to do meal planning and
exercise . For Diabetes Type 1 and some Type 2 diabetes , insulin injections
are also necessary . For most people with Type 2 diabetes , oral medications
required ( oral medication ) in order to help the body to make more insulin and
or help make insulin work better .
Sometimes
people with Type 2 diabetes can control their blood sugar without medication ,
simply by setting diet and exercise regularly. People with
diabetes are encouraged to regularly control to the doctor . The doctor will
give you an explanation of diabetes and its control , dietary adjustments ,
exercise , complications can occur and drugs or insulin should be used .
Patients
also need to carry out checks blood sugar levels regularly and pass the
examination of blood and urine periodically covering HbA1c ( blood sugar
picture in the last 3 months ) , mikroalbumin urine ( leakage of protein in the
urine ) , cholesterol profile , kidney function , liver , and so on .
Patients
also need regular eye examinations at least 1 times a year to ensure the
absence of complications of diabetes on the eyes ( retinopathy ).
.
What are the
complications of diabetes that can happen ?
This is one
important reason why patients need to control their blood sugar . Due to poor
blood sugar control , patients will experience long-term complications , such
as stroke , heart disease , blindness , kidney failure , blood vessel disease,
and nerve damage that can lead to amputation of limbs and can occur in men
erection problems .
Over 10
years of research that has been completed, showed that patients who keep their
blood sugar under control , will reduce the risk of these complications by up
to 50 % more .
What is the
blood sugar targets to be achieved by persons with Diabetes ?
The target
of the blood sugar is individual , so it could have been a different patient
with other patients for the targets to be achieved . But in general the target
to be achieved are :
> Blood sugar 2 hours after meals : under 160 mg / dl
> Blood sugar before bedtime : 110-150 mg / dl
> The target for HbA1c ( blood sugar picture in the last 3 months ) of less than 7 %.
Is Diabetes can be cured ?
Until now
there has been found to cure diabetes. But to lose excess weight, a good diet
and regular exercise, can make blood sugar back to normal. But this by no means
been cured of diabetes. Because when the patient back fat, poor diet and no
exercise, the blood sugar will rise again. Diabetes can not be cured so, but
can be controlled blood sugar within normal limits.
